Grilled cheese sandwich was the first recipe I recall learning and cooking - a young child’s American dream: processed cheese slice with fluffy white bread and margarine! Time passed, HP Sauce became the favoured condiment (I'm still hot and cold on ketchup) and with school just around the corner, I'd skip home for lunch of the favourite gooey high-fat creation.
All grown up at about 15, suddenly I needed to lose weight – convinced she wouldn’t want me unless I was (more) slim and sexy, oh love. The diet menu: starvation diet of daily grilled cheese and virtually nothing else! My flirtation was with an eating disorder.
Fast forward to 2010 and today's breakfast of old Balderson cheddar grilled into Ace multigrain loaf. I’m about to walk over to Wychwood market for Monforte cheese and St. John’s bakery bread to satisfy the next fix (Toscana on Olive/ Cilantro perhaps, or Multigrain/ Indiscretion – if available yet).
Hey, an Edward Street update – the market is opening the third week of July! Stop in if you have a chance. Bring an appetite for the daily grilled cheese crafted from artisanal bread and fabulous cheese!

Looks too good to eat! Is that avocado I see between the slices? Ooooh, avocado and grilled cheese - a marriage made in heaven.
